The History of Sholes, Nebraska
The town of Sholes was established in 1902 to provide a shipping point for the northwest portion of the county. Cattle feeders in the northwest part of Wayne County petitioned the railroad company to put in a siding for them and yards to aid them in shipping livestock. Lyman Sholes, superintendent of the railroad division, located the town, brought up an engineer and surveyed the place for a side track.
The population of Sholes today is less than 25 people.
